Lake County to allocate CARES Act grant funding to Lake County Schools

Release Date: August 07, 2020

Tavares – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners met today in a special meeting to identify opportunities to assist Lake County Schools with plans to reopen later this month. The Board voted unanimously to allocate $1.67 million of the County’s initial Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to implement proactive measures to ensure a safe environment for students. The funding will provide for increased janitorial services, partitions, thermometers, and temperature scanners.

The $16 million Business Assistance Grant Program that the Board approved in July will not be affected. “We committed to providing up to $16 million in CARES Act funding to our businesses and we want to assure them that we stand by that,” said County Commissioner Sean Parks. “Funds allocated to the schools from the initial CARES Act funding distribution will be reimbursed by future CARES allocations.”

The Board also noted that making the funds available to the schools will benefit the entire community. “The overarching goal of the Board of County Commissioners and the Lake County School Board is to protect the safety of our community,” said County Commission Chairman Leslie Campione. “The collaboration of the Commission and the School Board enhances our efforts to protect families and the community at large.”
